Labor Day
I read Labor Day by Joyce Maynard in one sitting! I just could not leave New Hampshire and the story that Henry was telling, which all happened when he was 13 years old one Labor Day (multiple meanings of that phrase abound) weekend. The last sentence in the book made me sob out loud. A bleeding man approaches Henry in a store and he and his long divorced mother end up taking him home. Among other things, he teaches them how to make a perfect pie. The title has multiple meanings. This novel is beautifully and sensitively written and is filled with love and hope. It was a joy to read.
