Katie has always been an avid reader. She earned a Master’s degree in Library Science, and continued her education with law school. After practicing law for several years, while also raising her daughter, Katie decided to make a change. When the only book store in town closed its doors, she was struck with the idea to start her own book shop. On July 4th, 1997, amidst fireworks and parades, she opened the doors of Village Books to Pacific Palisades. Now, instead of fighting the Santa Monica freeway to her law office everyday, Katie walks to work each morning from her nearby home. “Bookstores, independent book stores in particular, are a day to day struggle,” she says, “But I love what I do”.
